In chapter nine we have come back to current day Babylonia where Darrius, a Mede, son of Xerxes sits on the throne. If we remember, it was during Darius' reign when Daniel was thrown into the Lion's Den, but his life was saved by the Most High God. Darius was so happy that he declared in chapter six...
Then King Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language in all the earth: “May you prosper greatly!
26 “I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.
“For he is the living God
and he endures forever
his kingdom will not be destroyed,
his dominion will never end.
27 He rescues and he saves
he performs signs and wonders
in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel
from the power of the lions.”
Yet, we find Daniel in deep prayer, pleading with the Lord through, ashes, sackcloth and petition for the troubles that are destined to fall upon the city and the people. Daniel has learn that the Prophet Jeremiah has been told Jerusalem's destruction will last 70 years. Daniel, while in Prayer, sees Gabriel who comes to help Daniel better understand his troubling dreams. Gabriel came to give answer to Daniel' prayer as it was answered as soon as he began to pray. The destruction is to put an end to sin, to atone wickedness and to bring everlasting righteousness to the Most Holy. But, before this it to take place, a Ruler will come to destroy the city and the sanctuary There is actually a seventy sevens (490) and seven sevens (49). After so, the Anointed One will make a covenant with many for one seven and during this seven, He will put an end to Offering and Sacrifice.
Matthew 24:6You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come.
Matthew 24:40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left.
Sin was abound then and it is now. The difference is that we have God's Son, Jesus, to save us from the destruction that will come to clean the earth and separate the sheep from the goats. Sadly, all do not believe even though this was told in Old Testament and the New. We see evidence of this truth through wars, greed, hatred, insatiable wickedness that is before us daily. How can people not believe that the world will end and Jesus is the only way to not be left behind?
