In chapter six, King Nebucharnezzar's son, King Belshazzar had been slained and at the age of 62, Darius the Mede has been made King. Darius has appointed 120 satraps to rule throughout the kingdom and has placed three administrators over them in an effort to protect the King and prevent any loss. Daniel's exceptional qualities allows him to stand out from the rest of staff and this has caused King Darius to place him over the entire Kingdom. As jealousy rears its ugly head, the satraps and other admin staff has decided to find fault with Daniel. Why, the Scriptures do not say, but do people need a reason to dislike a person or want to see them not advance? Unfortunately, no. They all tried to dig up dirt on Daniel and was unable to do so. Therefore, they came at Daniel through what he loved and honored the most, his relationship with God. Three times a day, Daniel got down on his knees and prayed to the Most High God giving thanks as he had done since his captivity. Now, the Satrap and Administrators knew of this and requested that King Darius issue an edict and enforce a decree that anyone who prays to any god or man, except Darius, during the next 30 days be placed in the lion's den.
Daniel was aware of the decree but did not fail on his commitment to the Lord. As expected, the Admins, and Satraps, Prefects and others immediately ran to the King and told him that Daniel ignores the edict and must meet the punishment that the King had ordered for those who went against the decree. Darius is sadden by the news and tries effortlessly to prevent Daniel's impending doom. As decreed, Daniel was brought to the lion's den and King Darius said to him "May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you." The next day the King hurried to the den. In an anguished voice he called out to Daniel and asked has the servant of the LIVING GOD survived through the night. Daniel answered, O King Live Forever! Darius was overjoyed and Daniel was removed from the den. Daniel explained to the King how the One True God has closed the lions mouth and no wound was found upon him because he had trusted in his God.
King Darius wrote to all people a decree stating that every part of the kingdom must fear and reverence the God of Daniel for he is the LIVING GOD and He endures Forever. God's kingdom will not be destroyed and His dominion will never end!
Summary: If we let people see God in us and live according to His word...we can bring a multitude of people to the Lord. And, regardless of age, God can and will use you!! Hallelujah!
