Hello Everyone! Praise and Thank GOD for another day. I hope we did something today that pleased our Lord. Maybe we helped someone in need, went to visit someone sick, lonely or incarcerated. Did we go to a place of worship to hear the word of the Lord? What did you do today that let someone know that Jesus is alive as He lives in YOU!
In chapter five we learn that King Nebuchadnezzar has passed and his son Belshazzar is now King. Following in the tradition of his Father, Belshazzar is worshipping idol gods and acknowledging them for all of the possessions he has in his life.
During a banquet King Belshazzar had requested that the gold and silver goblets, that were in the temple of Jerusalem, be brought to him so that he and his nobles, wives and concubines may drink wine from the cups. As they celebrated, they all praised the gods of these material possessions.
In the midst of the King and his guests praising idol gods, a human hand began to write on the plaster of a wall. King Belshazzar watched as the hand wrote and became so frightened that he knees knocked and his face turned very paled. As the custom of that time, Belshazzar called out to the enchanters, astrologers, diviners, etc. to see if they could interpret the handwriting upon the wall. None of them could but, fortunately, the Queen informed Belshazzar of Daniel who was known to have a keen mind and had the ability to explain dreams.
Daniel was brought to King Belshazzar who had promised him that if he told the meaning of the wall's handwriting, Daniel would be given purple clothing and be named the third highest in the kingdom. Daniel told Belshazzar that writing on the wall meant he was like his Father King Nebuchadnezzar. Daniel said that your father, too, praised idol gods and did not acknowledge that there is only one true God which is Sovereign and has the power and authority to give and take from whom he chooses. Because King Nebuchadnezzar was prideful and stubborn, he was made low as animals and given the mind of one until he humbled himself to the Most High God. Daniel explain to Belshazzar that even though he knew these things had happen to his father, he still refused to humbled himself. Because of this fact God sent the handwriting upon the wall to say....King Belshazzar days are numbered, he has been weighed and found wanting (he had been judged and found guilty) and his kingdom will be divided and given to his enemies (Persians and Medes).
All that Daniel shared with King Belshazzar came to pass.
Summary: Often times, tradition allow us to follow in the footsteps of family even we know what they do is wrong and not pleasing to the Lord. And, when we know the truth, the right path to take, we let selfishness, greed, pride, idol gods such as money, power, possessions lead us down the road of destruction. Although, God loves us and His Son, Jesus, died for us, each of us must deal with the consequences of our actions just as King Belshazzar had to deal with his choices.
Some, may disagree, but God does chastise (Hebrews 12: 7 -11) His children for disobedience. However, NOW through believing is Jesus as God's Son, the Redeemer of Sin, and our Savior, we can have eternal life. Praise Him!!
He who began a great work in us will be sure to complete it!
